The argument was not about the dishes

The argument started with one plate in the sink. Jordan heard, you never help me. Maya heard, nothing I do counts. So Jordan defended the whole week. Maya prosecuted the whole year. Neither one was talking about the plate anymore. Under Jordan's anger was a request: notice how hard I am trying. Under Maya's silence was another: notice me before I have to ask. They could keep proving who was right, or name the need hiding under the evidence. Which sentence changes the room: I am trying, or I miss you?
